Senior Micronutrient Specialist
McKing Consulting Corporation is seeking a senior micronutrient specialist to actively engage with CDC’s Micronutrient Malnutrition Prevention and Control Team (IMMPaCt) in implementing the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity’s (DNPAO) strategic activities to achieve optimal health among populations at higher risk by improving nutrition in, with a focus on micronutrients (iron, iodine, vitamin A, folate, and zinc deficiency) as a public health problem.
The Senior Micronutrient Specialist will:
- Provide epidemiological and micronutrient expertise to strengthen and implement CDC’s micronutrient surveillance and research portfolio.
- Coordinate systematic reviews of scientific literature on micronutrients and disseminate findings to inform practice or further investigation.
- Provide epidemiological consultation, write protocols, and conduct complex analyses, and carry out secondary analyses.
- Provide expertise and analytic support analyzing nutrition data, with a focus on micronutrients.
- Provide analytic support in validating and replicating analyses to ensure accuracy of findings and conclusions.
- Use knowledge of nutrition and micronutrient science to review or prepare briefing documents, publications, and presentations, or other materials as needed.
- Provide expertise in writing high-quality peer review articles and other scientific documents outlining key findings.
- Summarize findings of complex scientific, nutrition-related topics for different audiences, including for federal agencies, the scientific community and partners.
- Routinely communicate information with CDC management and staff and provide input to document program activities and efforts.
- Disseminate information within CDC and present externally, under guidance of CDC staff.
- Provide internal and external advanced technical expertise and assistance to program team members, management and partners.
- Participate in team meetings and provide consultation to CDC staff.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- Doctoral degree in human nutrition, public health, epidemiology or social science with background in nutrition and vitamin and mineral science.
- At least six years’ experience required working in nutrition programs or projects, including micronutrients.
- Knowledge of organizing, implementing, and reporting population based nutritional surveys and monitoring and evaluation systems.
- Experience conducting systematic reviews and summarizing findings of scientific literature on micronutrients
- Experience in nutrition survey and surveillance data management and analysis.
- Expertise using statistical analysis software (such as R, SAS, STATA and/or SPSS)
- All candidates must have proven verbal, written, listening and presentation skills.
- Fluency in English language.
The ideal candidate will also have the following:
- Excellent analytical skills to deal with longitudinal and quasi-experimental designs, randomized trials, and observational studies.
- Experience analyzing electronic health records and analysis of complex survey design datasets.
- Experience working within the federal government setting and writing for government agencies.
- Proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics software (especially MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills with the ability to understand and communicate with people from different cultural and professional backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently (self-motivated) under a general scope of program objectives and duties of the position.
- Strong written and oral presentation skills.
