POSITION:  Senior Accountant

SUMMARY: Responsible for managing the general accounting function. Provides information, primarily financial in nature, about all company activities that will assist management, and other users in making educated economic decisions about the company’s future. Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Leads and directs the work of the accounting department.

DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and annual budgets.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
  • Analyze and review all balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy. Review Inventory, Work in Process and Cost of Sales. Prepare and record monthly accrual journal entries. Review income statement accounts for trending and variances from expectations.
  • Oversee the activities of the accounts payable department, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports and cash control.
  • Oversee the activities of the accounts receivable department to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, etc., cash management.
  • Prepare all documents required from the company Accounting Firm on a monthly/quarterly basis and handle all ad hoc questions or inquiries. Assure corporate income tax compliance to assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes. Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data, and enhance the company’s value. Monitors and analyzes accounting work to develop more efficient procedures and uses of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Respond to Company President, Vice President and other company managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
  • Collaborate with the other managers to support the overall company goals and objectives. Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting procedures to provide timely information to operations to improve the bottom line of the company.
  • Support budget and forecasting activities.
  • Review job files upon completion to analyze actual results compared to expectations. Provide job reports and analysis to management.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine transactions.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 10+ years of hands-on accounting managerial experience.
  • Must be PC proficient.
  • Experience with enterprise accounting systems.
  • Sage experience a plus.
  • Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel and word.
  • Ten keys by touch
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
