PTA – Description

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA/LPTA), under the clinical supervision of a Physical Therapist, performs therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position’s qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards.  The PTA/LPTA functions in accordance with their State Practice Act. 

PTA – Requirements

Graduate of an APTA approved Physical Therapy Assistant program 

  • PTA license to practice in the state or board eligible
  • Competency in applying the principles, methods, materials and equipment necessary in providing physical therapy.
  • must demonstrate competency in identified areas of specialization, including training for age specific groups; competency in applying the principles, methods, materials and equipment necessary in providing physical therapy. 
  • must understand and follow policies and procedures of the department and demonstrate compliance with accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements.
