COMPANY OVERVIEW: Our client is an industrial supplier is a regional distributor, privately owned Texas business with a primary focus on serving the petrochemical, refinery, shipbuilding, welding fabrication, paper mill, marine, steel production, and several other industrial markets in the Houston area, Southeast Texas, and Southwest Louisiana region.

POSITION TITLE:    Controller

COMPENSATION:  Competitive salary + DOE

LOCATION:  Orange or Houston, Texas

SUMMARY:  The ideal candidate will have experience as an accountant / controller in the industry

DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Excellence and hold others to the same standards
  • Promote safety within your department and throughout the company
  • Develop weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual plans related to departments that align with the company’s annual management by objective goals
  • Manage accounting, purchasing and human resource departments
  • Develop employees within the accounting, purchasing, and human resource departments
  • Meet and communicate goals and plans with department managers or personnel on a regular basis
  • Uphold company policy and hold department personnel accountable
  • Conduct employee performance reviews and development plans annually
  • Develop and implement department policies and procedures
  • Manage the accounting and finance departments
  • Scan appropriate documents
  • Match vendor invoices and process payments via check, credit card or Automated Clearing House
  • Review vendor statements and reconcile
  • Manage unmatched purchase order distribution report
  • Invoice customer orders and distribute
  • Invoice summary billing at end-of-month
  • Manage customer statements
  • Manage accounts receivables
  • Managing purchasing department manager
  • Work with purchasing manager to develop and manage processes that improve inventory control
  • Improve gross margin and profitability of the company by working with purchasing manager to develop best purchasing practices that align with the company’s overall objectives
  • Manage banking relationships, banking process and cash flow
  • Processing Loans not exceeding $100K per loan
  • Work with company corporate performance management on quarterly or bi-annual reviews
  • Work with company corporate performance management on asset depreciation schedule that is in line with senior management or company’s strategies related to profitability strategies while following tax laws
  • Reconcile financials with owners and company corporate performance management monthly, quarterly and yearly or as needed
  • Submitting and filing company’s annual tax returns
  • Manage insurance relationships and insurance coverage
  • Manage employee forms and documents
  • Record keeping of employee reviews, warnings and terminations
  • Manage employee benefits – medical, disability, etc.
  • Inform managers of upcoming employee anniversaries for annual reviews
  • Manage simple IRA plan for employees
  • Work directly with Paycom payroll specialist
  • Manage payroll taxes – unemployment tax, social security and Medicare taxes, federal taxes for employees
  • Process payroll reporting and input information into organization’s software system
  • Manage earnings, deductions, and wage garnishments for employees
  • Provide financial reports and support to senior managers as required
  • Process daily, monthly and yearly accounting close out procedures (checks and balances)
  • Assist management and other departments in improving profitability
  • Attending meetings with core management team to help provide input and support to overall company direction


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-10 years of accounting, finance, human resources and management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Additional knowledge and experience in industrial distribution with industrial hoses, welding equipment and supplies, safety products, mill supplies, lubricants and janitorial is a plus (hose, welding and safety are products are key items)
  • Must be able to work independently but also be a team player; manage projects, be creative, develop solutions, ability to utilize resources and work in a professional manner
  • Must also have strong communication, computer skills and use Microsoft office products
