Organization Overview
As the voice of the Brooklyn business community, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce serves its members through promotion, support, advocacy, and its convening authority to build and maintain a healthy and robust business environment throughout the borough. The Brooklyn Alliance, its economic development arm, provides programs and business development services across Brooklyn’s diverse neighborhoods. Brooklyn Alliance Capital, a CDFI, is the Brooklyn Chamber’s lending arm, providing loans to small businesses, specifically immigrant and minority owned, to increase economic opportunity and create jobs in Brooklyn.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one consultative support for Brooklyn’s small businesses, connect businesses to available resources and develop individualized service support plans, considering available City, State, and Federal programs, along with existing services offered by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, including micro-lending and finance programs, M/WBE certification, and procurement programs;
- Assist small businesses with completing relevant applications necessary for securing resources made available by Federal, State, and City government agencies and affiliated programs;
- Assist with organizing commercial corridor โwalk-throughsโ with relevant elected and government officials;
- Collect and enter data to quantify program impact;
- Successful candidates should expect to spend at least 60% of their work time in the field speaking with small business owners door-to-door;
- Special projects as directed by Chamber of Commerce staff.
Desired Qualifications:
- College degree and relevant experience in business, marketing, banking/finance, government or other relevant industry;
- Previous experience conducting outreach is preferred;
- Bilingual in Spanish is highly desired;
- Strong desire to help small businesses succeed is a must;
- Strong service orientation to connect people to resources and provide support;
- Resourcefulness and patience;
- Brooklyn residency or strong familiarity with Brooklyn neighborhoods is preferred.
