COMPANY OVERVIEW: A general construction company that specializes in the fabrication and erection of steel structures. 

POSITION TITLE: Engineering Manager


BENEFITS: Standard 

LOCATION: Salt Lake City, UT 

SUMMARY: Responsible for providing engineering designs for our projects, manage the detail design completion and will need to check the detail drawings for accuracy for shop and field construction support.

Thorough understanding of the storage tank industry, its competitors, its clients, and the areas of work and competitiveness.
Develop design capabilities working with in house team and subcontractors to manage costs for competitiveness in the market.  
Manage department of detailers to effectively produce quality fabrication drawings which meet internal and external shop needs as well as field erection.
Review incoming RFQ''s as required with sales to determine bid eligibility of projects.
Attend project kick-off meetings to assist with transfer of information from sales department and project management to remaining company departments.
Work with onsite and remote team members to find ways to improve our effectiveness in prefab and field construction through designs.
Work closely with Shop and Field on issues that arise during the construction of the project as well as change order requests
Have or be able to obtain a professional engineering license in the states the company has projects and do what is required to maintain the licenses.
Follow up with clients on any technical inquiries and issues that may arise throughout a project.
Ensure timely submittal of designs and drawing commitments to meet project timeline.
Develop strategies with management to improve the efficiencies of the design, fabrication, and erection process.
Research market trends and follow industry publications to determine current and future technologies that may improve the design time and costs.
Maintain good people skills and a positive work attitude to create a enthusiasm and energetic atmosphere in the office, shop, and field.
Identify Key Performance Indicators for the Engineering department with Management team and report on these monthly.

Required Skills:  


  • 10+ years'' experience in the storage tank industry, with 4+ years'' experience as engineering manager. preferred.
  • Professional Engineering License preferred
  • Strong personnel and management skills.• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, as well as good organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including:
    • MS Office (Word / Excel / Outlook / Project)
    • AutoCADo AME Tank, RISA, ITS and Codeware Compressed Vessel Design Preferred
  • Ability to multi-task, and work on multiple projects in varying stages at a time
  • Knowledge and certifications of industry standards related to the storage tank industry
  • knowledge of API-620, API-650, API-653, AWWA D100, and ASME Section VIII codes is preferred. Available to receive training for acquiring certifications if not already held
  • Bachelor''s Degree Preferred
