COMPANY OVERVIEW: Successful shipping services company providing logistics, storage and freight transportation

POSITION TITLE: Chief Financial Officer

COMPENSATION: $120K base salary + bonus potential

SUMMARY: Reporting to the President, the CFO is a vital member of the company leadership.  The CFO oversees the finances of the organization and has the authority to make and override decisions related to the financial management of the business.  The CFO is ultimately responsible for and has authority over the financial and budgetary aspects of the company, providing strong, direct, and timely leadership to company personnel.   The CFO is the main company financial spokesperson and conduit to bank relationships and other financially focused stakeholders. The CFO must be a calm and confident leader and must have the ability to take initiative, work well with others, accept criticism and confident leader and implement necessary changes, work well under pressure, manage multiple tasks, be flexible and decisive, communicate effectively, and set the example for respectful professional relationships.


The role is comprised of three essential executive level leadership functions - executive business management, internal management, and financial management. 

Responsibilities of each function are listed below:

  • Executive Business Management
  • Oversee the financial management, strategy, and planning
  • Serve as the ultimate authority in regards to financial decisions
  • Create annual budgets and financial reports under the direction of the President
  • Conduct union negotiations

Required Skills:  


Required Skills:

  • 5+ years'' experience in logistics or industrial services environment
  • 5+ years'' experience as a Controller/CFO
  • 5+ years'' experience with QuickBooks
  • Bachelor''s degree is preferred but not required

Internal Management:

  • Work with all department heads in using a “big picture” understanding of the organization and its direction to create financial plans will maintain the current goals, while supporting new goals for the company
  • Work with assigned direct reports to manage the financial operations of clients by providing leadership, coaching, and direction
  • Hire, counsel, and terminate team members as needed
  • Understand client''s finances, cash flow, debts, at-risk clients, and profit margins
  • Evaluate and implement improvement in workflow processes as needed
  • Assist assigned direct reports with prioritizing projects and managing their time in order to allow them to meet their deadlines, holding them accountable for successfully meeting those deadlines
  • Assist in the enforcement of all company policies and procedures

Financial Management:

  • Accept ultimate ownership of and responsibility for the management of company''s budget
  • Serve as the expert on all financial issues, analysis, optimization, plans, and initiatives
  • Manage all banking relationships and financial reporting
  • Prepare and maintain fiscal year budgets, monthly financial reports, as well as full-year budgetary re-forecasts as necessary
  • Direct the preparation of all financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, P&L''s, financial audits, internal reports, etc.
  • Assume responsibility for all local, state, and federal tax returns

Oversee the corporate audit function:

  • Prepare reports to analyze forecasted total revenue, expenses, and EBITDA against actuals and recommend improvements for improving financial planning, health, and efficiency.
  • Serve as client''s financial expert and work with team members to address client and vendor problems as they arise
  • Ensure that all accounting processes are followed in an effective, efficient, and accurate manner
  • Assess long-range economic trends and project company prospects for future growth in overall sales and market share
  • Analyze long-range workforce needs
  • Work with the accounting team to identify ways to improve accounting processes, reporting, and filing
