Our customer has asked Talent 101 to identify an Airborne Computer Systems Engineer  for a Full Time  Position located in Prescott, AZ.


What is the project about, what will the selected candidate be doing and what is the outcome our customer expects?

The successful candidate will be a Systems Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) for avionic grade airborne computer/server/routers. Able to use a greater knowledge of engineering disciplines, processes and tools within the job discipline in order to complete and ensure designs meet requirements. Interacts with internal and external customers and understands the technical and business impact of how and what is stated. In addition this position will flow down architectural and systems’ level requirements to other technical disciplines including hardware, software, mechanical, test and process.

Required Skills:  
  • Only Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in avionics architecture, design and requirements will be considered

o Must have recent design and integration experience with avionic systems
o Must have specific detailed design experience Airborne Computers/Servers/Routers
o Must possess demonstrated ability to provide, define and support the larger, integrated systems’ view
o Must be able to define the systems level and LRU level architecture

  • Demonstrated ability in the following System level activities:

o Develop system level design architectures to meet product design objectives
o Support/create customer requirements
o Translate customer requirements to system level requirements
o Timeline/latency/performance analysis and modeling
o Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware or software specifications.
o Design-to-Cost, Design-to-Test and Design-for-Manufacturability
o Recommends significant enhancements that improve projects and processes.

  • Demonstrated experience following / providing detailed interpretation of certification standards for design, analysis, development and functional / verification test:

o DO-178B
o DO-254
o DO-160

  • Based on the design/product, the LRU may be used for various Avionic needs, DAL B to DAL E (examples: In Flight Entertainment (IFE) Unit streaming content via Wireless Access Points (WAP), Power Distribution Management Control Unit, Degraded Visual Environment Control Unit, Satcom Server, Data Server with managed network switch for on-board data management, Data Link, WIFI and LTE server, etc)
  • LTE implications include VOIP, data and Applications interfaces / considerations
  • Experience with fundamental computer architectures (CPU, Compact Flash, SSD, Ethernet (10/100 and GigE), RAM, backplanes, Avionics I/O, PCIe, etc)
  • Experience in one or more design and development programs using the following technologies:

o Bluetooth
o Voice over IP (VIOP)
o Video over IP
o Wireless Access Points (WAP)
o Lynx/Windos Operating Systems
o Data Link

  • Experience the internal LRU data flow and throughput needs within a microprocessor based design
  • Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
  • Experience with networking standards/ protocols and network designs
  • Microprocessor based avionics grade hardware
  • Demonstrated proficiency handling multiple priorities
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers
  • Candidate shall also support subsystem / element integration within an avionics Systems Integration Lab (SIL) environment.
  • Experience with Bid and Proposals / new business opportunities
  • Authoring / presenting Technical Papers
  • Experience interfacing with customers
  • Proficiency in operating as an individual contributor and executing in a team / multi-discipline environment
  • Executes and supports schedules and metrics
  • BS EE from accredited University (M.S.E.E. preferred).
  • 12+ years of experience in avionics / product development environment

*Preferred Qualifications:*

  • General Avionics or helicopter pilot experience
  • Proficiency with Requirement Management tools (such as DOORs) and experience with enterprise-level Configuration Management and Defect Management tools
  • Experience defining technology/product roadmaps
  • Understands, can create, or lead the creation of safety analysis and FMEA’s,
  • Demonstrated expertise / proficiency in Product development life cycle execution (from requirements development through functional qualification acceptance) is a plus
  • Knowledge with Touch Screen Displays and/or general display technology
  • Experience transitioning new products into the factory
  • Experience supporting sustaining efforts with the factory
  • Skilled at leading Subcontractors or Outside Engineering Services
